Ronnie
Ricketts’s Rise to Fame
Before Ronnie
Ricketts became the Chairman of the Optical Media Board, on his younger days,
he was one of the most famous action stars in the Philippines. He started as a
ramp model before he entered the show business and was discovered by RVQ's
(Dolphy) film production as a potential handsome action star.
He was
introduced in the Dolphy-Nida Blanca film, My Heart Belongs
To Daddy (1982), where he was paired with Maricel Soriano. He was
being built as the other love interest of Soriano in the movie I Love You,
I Hate You (1983), together with William Martinez, and The Graduates (1986)
under Regal Films starring Snooky Serna and Gabby Concepcion. He was casted in several Dolphy-Alma
Morenomovie flicks such as
the Good Morning, Professor (1982) and Crazy Professor (1985)
with Aga Muhlach and Janice
de Belen.
Sparrow Unit
was the most unforgettable movie portrayal of Ronnie Ricketts. In that same
title movie, he won an award as Best Supporting Actor. Also, he also had
nominations as Best Supporting Actor in FAMAS on the Sparrow Unit (1987), and
FAMAS Best Actor in the movies’ Tatak ng Isang Api (1989), and Isa-Isahin Ko
Kayo (1990).
Sure Ronnie
Ricketts is famous. And as an action star to Chairman of the Optical Media
Board, I will assume that he will be very effective and influential to end the
optical piracy in the Philippines.
